Knitting at 100 kph
Well, so far on the knitting front I have whipped up a sideways scarf, a wrap, ten dishcloths (seasonal gifts), a jumper in-the-round, 2 square hats, and a pair of 'topless' gloves (for a guy with Raynauds' syndrome); and have been truly enjoying my Addi Clicks!
Pattern here: Blue Garter
In the process I have discovered exactly what this 'magic loop' that circular knitters were talking about, and will NEVER go back to double pointed needles again! In short for those like me who even up to 2 weeks ago didn't know - the magic loop is the ability to use a very long circular needle to knit a smaller circumference piece of knitting than the length of your cable. ie knitting a sleeve on an 80cm cable needle. The bonus being that you don't have any ladders (I think that is the magic really as when you are knitting somehow the tension works itself out!).
Another tip that I have been using is to have one needle of the size necessary for the tension (the knitting onto needle) and the other needle (that you are knitting off) as the 3.5mm. Unfortunately after finishing the second hat this afternoon I have discovered that this needle is very bent. I can only put it down to the temperature as it was fine up until today. (25.2 C inside and 28 C outside). There is no other explanation. Update: Addi sent a replacement - Anne-Marie was really sweet as well.
Oh and a tip in case it helps someone else - the Addi Click connector can be used to join both cable ends into a circle to 'store' the knitting until you need it. Sure you have to take the needle tips off but I haven't had much success with using the teddy bear needle huggers to keep the knitting on the tips otherwise.
So next on the list is knitting a boy's jumper, sewing up the cardigan I started for myself last year, and then perhaps Ruby will let me make her something (although she is highly capable of making it herself!!). In between we are knitting up scarves, wraps and things that Ruby and I hope to sell (to pay for the braces she desperately needs).
