Setting up a webring
Its not as easy I first thought, thats for real. Why should it be, lol!?
So ok, I decided to host it myself, which I still think is a good choice. This involved finding the software to use and in the end taking a chance. Then I put it in a less correct directory before I worked out how it could have worked embedded in an already used path. And the SQL database seemed to be having a problem. Having your own webring means I can change the appearance, veto any advertising, etc but it makes me solely answerable for the administration. Remember I only started to learn code just over a year ago.
Then I had to learn that the dynamic design for the buttons was subject to each member sites css and other constructs. So there were several prototypes of this and some are unfortunately still out there. Why did I use dynamic content - because the content is searchable. Although I did relent and redesign a simple button as a mapped area image - more specifically I got Onyx to do it.
Then there was the SQL database reconstruction that I just had to do and for no known reason. I had a site that broke the ring which led me to wonder about the back-end. So without re-numbering the owners or sites I re-ordered the sites. There were double-ups. The double-ups didn't matter in 2 instances as one was an inactive site but did in others.
So this re-included sites that were being left out, but still stopped on that one site that broke the ring. Some to-ing and fro-ing with the owner, taking out a target=_self tag and replacing the code, it works. This looks to have been a man-made error where the code was grabbed from another member site and not a programme one - human errors can easily be fixed.
Still, is it all worth it? Yes, I think so.

Audio Video Cards aka AV-cards
I have no idea if someone has picked up on this idea but as there is a proliferation of internet-accessible radio stations playing requests and places like You-tube storing video, this technology could be combined with the now traditional e-cards to become AV-cards (audio visual email post cards).
Simply select your background texture/ colour, embed your video and type a message or for an audio card - attach your message and select your personal photo or image to accompany it through cyberspace.
Yeah, I know there are other factors that could present a problem like ISP speed, computer age etc but there are always going to be these challenges.

Whats going on
Well I stumbled across a blog of a german couple who have just moved to NZ
http://unserneuseelandabenteuer.blogspot.com/
We've been to the morning tea at the local polytechnic for the placement families to meet this years students for the nanny course.
Yesterday I made contact with a couple of people about getting some support for the vietnamese wife of my husbands uncle and both recommended the same couple.
Found out that the missions course that my daughter and I are attending is in the main part a copy of Bill Hybels book "Becoming a Contagious Christian". This brings into question the integrity of the pastor although giving him benefit of the doubt, he may have received permission to republish more than 10% of it.
Sorted through more of the girls dolls and dolls clothes last night.
The next door neighbour came bounding over with the good news that she had got the job that we helped her apply for and I returned her excitement the next day with a congratulations card in the letterbox and a little something to buy the black trousers she needed for work. This felt great!
Wondering what do do with my blogs (yes I have more than one at various stages of inception). Whether to self-host, what open source front end to use, whether to install an intermediary CMS and how exactly they will work together with the mySQL/php database . And for all that you'd think I would have actually stylised this blog!
Also contemplating what on earth I am doing writing blogs when I possess little literary prowess compared to many others I have read recently, and are not versed in rhetoric or expertise in any one area.
And also how to provide at least 3 degrees of separation so that our family safety is not compromised by our online presence. Not an easy task, and one that hubby and I have talked around and around about for several weeks.
Read the book my aunty lent me "Children are Wet Cement" and most of this makes sense. Not sure how I will get the message home to hubby though with the impact needed to bring about change/repentance.
Wondering why we are in a place of rest from the traditional church and its religion when 2 other individuals who have been away for a few years for similar reasons are both 'being called' back. Am I stuck in the all or nothing frame of mind that suggests that you have to all be united in going to church or you are being divisive?
Waiting for the call from a national woman's magazine who were doing an article on a double-blind drug trial I took part in. They need to get some photos and I must say that I have thought much about how unworthy I feel to be presented in their magazine. My home is not perfect and I don't feel I look as beautiful on the outside as I feel on the inside. Does that sound vain?
The first homeschool picnic for the year is tomorrow. Weather today is great so here's hoping for tomorrow.
Have to get the children's passports away next week sometime which reminds I need to print the forms off the internet and take the youngest three for photos.
Am starting a genealogical website for my mothers side of the family and my husbands as well. Not too sure what name to give it, as the further back you go the larger the vault of family names and if I give it our surname then that may change with any future generation etc. Hmmm......any suggestions? Wouldn't it be really really exciting to have only one website showing all the connections to each other. After all we are all Adam's kin! Aaaaaargh...maybe there is the name?
